Introduction

The 2016 Japanese movie is based on a video game Final Fantasy(I,1987 to XV, 2016). Previously, Japan also released several animation movies of Final Fantasy from 1994 to 2016. The movie, titled Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, has more sophistication in the animation and was produced at the CGI studio Visual Works. The movements were computerized by the sensors attached to the body and face of the character models and then merged to the computer-simulated backgrounds. Glaive is an ancient broadsword, sometimes attached to a pole. In the movie, glaive is also the name of an elite force unit of the Kingdom of Lucis.

The setting of the story takes place in the land of Eos, an Earth-like world, where the empire of Niflheim is trying to subjugate other kingdoms. In the beginning, Niflheim breaks up the visit of King Regis of the kingdom of Lucis to the kingdom of Tenebrae. Its General Glauca kills Queen Sylva of Tenebrae and captures Prince Ravus and Princess Lunafreya. King Regis and his son Noctis escape.

Twelve years later, the soldiers of Lucis battled the invading forces of Niflheim again.

Outline

The empire of Niflheim has superior forces, land and air, but King Regis has magic power inherited from his ancestors. He has a ring to call the power and to put up a crystal shield for protection; his elite Kingsglaive corps of immigrants also share the power. Nevertheless, some subjects of Lucis and soldiers of Kingsglaive are enticed by the empire of Niflheim and rebel against King Regis.

When Niflheim invades, the Kingsglaive soldiers battle the army and the tamed monsters and a huge animal Daemon of Niflheim at the border. The battle settles to the retreat of Kingsglaive and the pause of the invading forces. As King Regis and his council take a breath, the envoy of Niflheim unexpectedly appears to offer peace. Because of the overwhelming superior forces and his weakening power, the aging King Regis accepts the peace offer of Emperor Niflheim with the conditions of ceding territories around the grand city Insomina and of having his son Noctis to marry Lunafreya, the princess of Tenebrae, who is under the control of the empire.

It is only a ruse as the emperor only wants to destroy the grand city Insomina of Lucis. The rebels assist the empire to break down the crystal shield protecting Insomina. King Regis and all of his council are killed by a surprise attack at the signing ceremony. A leader of Kingslaive, Nyx, escorts Princess Lunafreya with the magic ring of Regis to escape. Meanwhile, the emperor and his chancellor are watching the bombardment of the city on an airship; at the end, they depart before the order to release the monster Daemon to complete the destruction.

In the escape, Nyx and Lunafreya meet the commander of Kingsglaive, who turns out to be General Glauca of Niflheim. As Glauca is about to defeat Nyx in the fight, Nyx puts on the magic ring to call its power; he barters with the spirit of Lucis to exchange his own live to their power. Finally, Nyx successfully kills Glauca and the spirit comes to Insomina to destroy the Daemon.

At the end, Lunafreya returns alone to Insomina and to find Prince Noctis later.
